New Year's Resolutions - Goal Planning and Sticking to It!
If there is one thing that you know you'll hear about every January, no matter what year it may be, is New Year's resolutions. Some years, you may have them, and some years you may not. Many people disagree with New Year's resolutions because they are goals that are frequently dropped without having been achieved.
However, this is not the fault of the resolution, or the occasion on which it was made. The problem is that people tend to make overwhelmingly large resolutions, without any real plan for achievement. Truly, they are doomed before they get going.
Habits are a hard thing to change. It cannot be expected that a new year's resolution that involves losing weight, quitting smoking, or getting a new job will be accomplished quickly and easily, and without a plan.
On the other hand, if you create a plan that has distinct actions and levels of achievement, then you will be much more likely to stick to your goal. You'll have made your goal a realistic target, and will know how you'll get there. The path toward that goal will be clear, and at the different achievement stages, you'll feel rewarded and ready to keep going.
If you are serious about your commitment to your new year's resolution, then you won't even need to call it a new year's resolution. It's simply a living resolution that you have pledged to achieve. It is a resolution that doesn't end with January, but will instead survive as long as it must in order to be properly accomplished.
