Your Personal Thanksgiving - Every Day of the Year
For many families, Thanksgiving is one of the most important days of the year. Certainly, there are other important dates on the calendar, but Thanksgiving is the one day every year that gives families the opportunity to truly think about what is meaningful in their lives.
Thanksgiving provides all of us with a day to focus on two of the most important words in the English language: Thank You. This attitude is the ultimate in positive thinking.
This is not only important in your social life and business life, but also for self-actualization. Giving thanks for the gifts you have been given in life is one of the most important steps in anybody's own pursuit of happiness. In today's fast-paced world, this is more important than ever. Taking the time to stop, step back, and look at everything that is important to you.
Consider how much you have in your life. Think about your ancestors, people on the other side of the world who have lost everything to wars or natural disasters, or the people in your own neighborhood who are suffering from their own turmoil. As many troubles you may have in your life, you are still among the people with the most advantages in the world, throughout all of human history.
This doesn't just mean that you have a lot of "stuff." Indeed, we are at a point where materialism and consumption is at its highest ever but those aren't the meaningful things. True, your big screen television and countless ice cream flavors are great, but consider the really important stuff that you have every day, and may be taking for granted:
- Freedom and Choice
- Opportunities
- Education, Information, and Knowledge
- Health
The best thing that you can do this Thanksgiving is to decide that it will no longer be the only day of the year that you give thanks for all of the things that you appreciate in your life. Remember, appreciation is the single most important key to happiness. You can have everything you'd ever dreamed of, but if you don't appreciate it, you'll never be happy.
Ensure your own happiness in your life by celebrating Thanksgiving every day of the year.
