How Much is Enough When Saving for College?
A college education is an extremely important part of a person's
life. However, it doesn't come cheap. How much do you really need to
save?
When you graduate from college, the education that you receive pays off your investment several times over. Throughout a lifetime, a person who has graduated with a bachelor's degree will, on average, earn approximately $500,000 more than a person who has not educated themselves beyond the high school level.
Unfortunately, it is hard to feel motivated by these benefits when faced with the initial cost of a college education. The cost of college is often the first significant financial responsibility that a person must face. As a family, it is likely the largest expenditure that you will make for each child...Read full article
Beating the High Price of Gas By Ellen Corsi
Wow, in times like this, we could start talking about the Great Depression! I'm kidding. Gas prices have actually started coming down in the last week or so, to about $2.46 a gallon where I live, so I'm really not complaining. We've heard all of the hype about how the gas prices will go through the roof, when in reality, they really haven't. When BP recently announced they were closing one of their main gas lines for major repairs, the gas prices stayed where they were and then started declining. So, what causes the gas prices to fluctuate so much that we're checking prices at five or six gas stations as we're tooling around in our cars? Some people blame...Read full article |

Getting What You Want Communication Tips for Consumers
By Nancy Adams
http://www.writemind.net
Savvy consumers know how to get the best deals: shop the ads, compare prices, buy in season. But what happens if the merchandise you purchased isn't what you expected? What if that new gadget breaks the first time you use it? Or you receive lousy service from a provider?
If you're like most people, you'd almost rather have a tooth pulled than deal with situations like this. It's more than the inconvenience - experience tells you that obtaining a resolution to your problem could be a painless effort or it could be a nightmare. The good news is that... Read full article |

Going Back to School with Your Employer's Help
For the majority of employed adults, the most important obstacles they face when they consider going back to school are money and time. Fortunately, many employers offer tuition assistance programs for employees who wish to continue their education.
The reason that these programs are offered isn't because your employer may have a big heart.
Many companies recognize how helpful it is in the long run to encourage employees to upgrade their education.

Take a Class for Fun - On Your Own or As a Couple
Taking a class about a topic that you enjoy can be an extremely fulfilling and fun experience. Many people have been taking classes for fun over the last decade but more recently, a new social element has developed. Couples have been taking courses for fun about topics that they enjoy together.
Whether on your own or with a partner or spouse, classes are a great way to learn more and encourage great discussions over what you've learned and what you've enjoyed... Read full article
Surviving & Thriving in Uncertain Times
Wars all over the globe. The very real threat of more and worse terrorist attacks. Global warming. Sky high gas prices. International competition. Outsourcing. Lost jobs, lower wages. Companies and even entire industries going down the tubes. The list of potentially cataclysmic events is seemingly endless. And the average person is just trying to survive: to pay the bills and get somewhere financially and professionally. It gets harder and harder to cope, to carry on amid the global - not to mention local and national - uncertainty both economically and socially. Books have been written about the subject, so what can a short article possibly say about this vast topic? My goal here is to...Read full article

"My degree from Almeda has opened up a door with a large corporation that I began with in 1982. After transferring to a buyout company in 1985 and working with
them for 10 years, the following 10 years were spent with countless resumes and rejections of "adequate experience" but no "formal piece of paper."
It was actually the wallet-sized laminated copy of my degree (Almeda included with my actual certificate) that I offered to Human Resources during my recent interview that eliminated any long wait for a formal educational background check and secured an offer during that same meeting!
Countless reams of resume paper, printer ink refills, and the stress of rejections were all left behind with just one, on the spot, wallet-sized proof positive during an interview.
(I have since thrown away my 3 ring binder
collection of rejection letters!)"
