Shakespeare said it best when he said, "This above all, to thine own self be true. Then it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not be false to any man". Be true to yourself as you get ready to pursue a university degree online. Don't fool yourself, for all its benefits, this is still going to be hard work. You are going to have to be self motivated and self disciplined. There won't be a teacher there reminding you and insisting that you met your scholastic obligations in the form of homework turned in on time and so forth. There will be no threats of after school detention from your teacher or of grounding from your parents. You are the adult in your life now and you have to care enough about yourself to be your own best friend.
Set some rules for yourself regarding your studies and stick to them to the best of your ability. If you find that these rules don't work for you as you work towards getting a university degree online, change them, but make sure that you change them in your own best interest.
One very important thing that you are going to need to consider is the location of your classroom. Yes, that's right, classroom. You may not be in a university made of brick and mortar, but you are in a university. You might well consider the location of your computer to be your classroom. You are going to want a quiet place, a place where you won't be disturbed by activities going on around you. If you live in the midst of a family unit, you are going to want your classroom to be located where you won't find yourself getting caught up in the midst of normal family activities, nor will you want your perusal of a university degree online to create an undue hardship for the rest of your family either. That sort of thing wouldn't be fair to any of you.
Once you have chosen a location, then think about supplies. Oh, you may not feel that you need a lot of paper or anything of that nature, since you will most likely be submitting your homework online, but you will want some. It is always nice to be able to print out a hard copy of essays or some form of homework which has been the accumulation of a great deal of hard work to put away in a "just in case" file. I would also recommend that you save all of your work on diskettes and/or cd's. Should the unspeakable happen and your computer suddenly refuse to co-operate, crash or any other horrible thing, it is always nice to know that you're hard work is safe. Pulling an all nighter, or even two all nighters in a row with a minimum of sleep because of some horrible computer problem isn't fun, trust me, I've been there. Don't trust your work just to your hard drive, have a backup system.
Try your best, do your best, achieve your best as you pursue a university degree online and you'll get the best out of your pursuit
